As any evolution of anykind, the Incandescnets needed to be modified, re-designed, and had to be much more powerful. Engineers combined carbon filaments and other elements such as Chlorine, iodine, and bromine to achieve the existence of the extended family of the Incandescents, Halogens. These compact, vacum sealed, bulbs, not only produced and extreme amount of heat, it provided a very noticable hue as well as brightness (which are called Lumens). Their design made it easier to apply them in smaller, hard to reach areas for both commercial and residentia applications. They were produced in many types of sizes and wattages to compete and replace some incandescents. Their Kelvin Temperatures (Color of bulb or hue) range between the low 2000 to the upper 5000 Kelvins. Voltage ranging from as low as 6volts to 480volts, and have an impressive degree spread (Which you can select between a Spot lightbulb bulb [8-25 degree] to a typical flood [30-50] . Life expectancy ranges between 2000-10000 hours and their life can be extended if a dimmer is utilized. Also known as CFL, Curly Q's, Spiral lightbulbs, or Energy Saving lightbulbs. Fluorescents are not as new as you may think. Soon after the creation of both Incandescent and Halogen bulbs, engineers seeked a better, reliable, and Energy Efficient lightbulb. Long before the CFL came into play, fluorescents were already in the market for commercial use in the early-mid 1900's. It wasn't unitl in the late 1900's that G.E.'s Engineer Edward. E. Hammer invented the first Compact Fluorescent. The goal was to provide many of these compact bulbs to replace the not so energy efficient and extremely hot bulbs like the incandescent and halogens. CFL consumed 1/3 of energy, provided an impressive amount of lumens, and was outlasting the orginal bulbs by thousands of hours. Then only drawback, it contains Mercury ( which is toxic to all humans, animals, and plants). After the Envirnonmental Act of 1969, CFL were in jeopardy. Mainly becuase of its toxic element, its slow start to brightened up, and the proper disposal at your nearest recycling center, was simply inconvenient for many consumers. In 2016, G.E. stopped production of the CFL's (not to be confused with Linear Fluorescents) and concentrated on LED production. CFL's continue to be in the market, but not for long. HID technology has been around since the early 1700's, and have no intention of being swept out of the market by LED technology, yet. In a simple way of describing how or what an H.I.D bulb is, is simply electrodes creating an arc, which amplifies noble gas that was set within the sealed glass which then melts and evopartes any metallic mixture to create and continue creating illumination for thousands of hours. H.I.D. in general for many years, have been a great source for illuminating warehouses, commercial, residential, and in motor/or marine vehicles. Their production of lumens is far much more impressive than that of a regular lightbulb, and require a transformer to help facillitate voltage needed to enhance and maintain the intensity level through its operation. The drawback for all H.I.D bulbs, is that they produce a high number of UV rays which is diffused by its own UV blocker, this can be an issue for humans, animals, and plant life.
